Chapter 20: Adventurer Registration
The next day after enjoying the bath to the fullest, and taking a good rest at the Cat’s Tail Pavilion.
After finishing my breakfast, I left the inn to go register at the Adventurer’s Guild, which was my original purpose for coming here.
“It’s so refreshing to have a bath after a long time.”
It’s not refreshing to wipe with hot water. It’s completely different when you wash your body in a bathtub filled with hot water; it warms you to the core.
It’s pleasant to not have your skin feel sticky. The breeze caressing my skin seemed to penetrate right into the pores, making me comfortably cool.
I feel as if I were one with the wind.
In a great mood, I walked straight down the street. As Mia described it, a building that I suspect to be the Adventurer’s Guild was there.
The atmosphere is a bit more eccentric than the other buildings. It’s like a small mansion.
As if they were being sucked in, strong warriors kept entering.
Looking at their appearance, I saw them wearing splendid weapons and armours. Maybe it’s for subduing monsters.
When I think that it’s my turn to go in, I do think that I’m a bit out of place. However, since I heard that there are requests to collect materials as well, it’s okay for people like me to go in too.
Feeling a little nervous, I followed behind the warriors and casually entered.
Inside, the Adventurer’s Guild was quite wide and there were a lot of armed people. Race didn’t seem to be a problem, as I can see a wide variety of humans, elves, and beastmen hanging around.
There was a reception table in the center. There, cute rabbit-eared beastwomen, slender elves, and beautiful human females were guiding the adventurers.
I probably need to register or accept requests there.
However, many adventurers are lined up there now.
Queuing up now would be a waste of time, so I walked inside the guild.
Entering from the front, I can see a bar on the left side, and many long tables and chairs were lined up.
Although it was still in the morning, I can see many people who were already gulping down ale and chattering about.
“…..Adventurers really do what they please.”
Well, I heard that being an adventurer is a job where you can choose whenever and whatever request you want to earn money. It’s like being a freelancer in my previous life.
I can see how they can freely drink alcohol early in the morning.
Looking at them who are drinking and laughing in a good mood, at least, they don’t seem unhappy to me.
Walking in the opposite direction of the bar, there were many parchments on the wall and several people were looking at it seriously.
Being curious, I took a closer look. It seemed to be the board where clients put their requests, and I could see many parchments on it.
【Subjugate the Antols that are nesting at the reef, Rank C】
【Subjugate the Sandy that has been spotted near the river, Rank E】
【Subjugate Horn Rabbits, Rank F】
The parchments that were posted in an easy-to-see way were all monster subjugation requests. A red stamp was pressed onto each one, indicating the difficulty of each request.
However, my goal is not to subjugate demons. I’m searching for material collection requests.
Shifting my line of sight, I can see requests stamped in green.
【Azami Herb Collection, Rank E】
【Bewitching Mushrooms Collection, Rank C】
【Dugdad’s Eggs Collection, Rank D】
【Light Bugs Delivery, Rank E】
【Chokiros’s Courtship Feather Delivery, Rank C】
I see, this side seems to be the requests for material collection. The parchments are quite old. Is there uninterrupted demand, or was it abandoned for a long time?
Ah, it seems that requests that are easier than subjugation requests are ignored.
Whatever the case, Grantel’s Adventurer’s Guild does have proper requests for material collections.
If so, it would be better to receive income from this request while also delivering materials.
Let’s immediately register as an adventurer.
The number of adventurers waiting in line has decreased while I was walking around the guild.
As I approached, the rabbit-eared woman became free so I headed there.
“Excuse me, I would like to register as an adventurer.”
“Yes, welcome to the Adventurer’s Guild. I’m a receptionist called Rabis. Do you require any explanations about being an adventurer?”
I heard about adventurers from Roland back in Ferumi village, but I will ask just in case.
“Please.”
“Understood.”
When asked, Rabis explained familiarly without indicating that it’s troublesome.
What she told me about the role and the system of an adventurer was roughly the same as what Roland said.
However, there are some things I did not know.
Adventurers are ranked S, A, B, C, D, E, and F, and it goes up with the number of completed requests. It seems that S rank is the highest and there are only a few in the country, and they are regarded as heroes.
It is recommended that adventurers receive requests according to their rank, and they can receive requests one rank higher. It is possible to receive even higher ranked requests if the guild staff recommends it.
10% of the request fee is collected by the guild, and the reward written in the request form is the net amount after subtracting the guild’s share.
If you fail to complete a request, you will be fined.
Although there are other details, there are many rules that are unrelated to normal activities, so it is omitted for now.
“That’s it for an adventurer’s role.”
“Thank you for your kindness. I would like to register, so please tell me about the procedure.”
“Roger that. Please write down your name, age, origin, and race on the registration form.”
Rabies holds out a parchment and a pen with a wide smile.
“Got it.”
I replied so, but can I write the characters of a different world?
However, when I held the pen and tried to write my name, I was able to write the letters I wanted to write as if I were using Japanese that I was familiar with.
If I write down my last name, I will be misunderstood as an aristocrat, so let’s leave it as Shuu. Let’s make my race human and my origin as Ferumi village.
The problem is my age. My original age was 26, but now I’m definitely as young as a high school student. It would raise a lot of questions if I wrote down my real age here.
Let’s write down 17 years old, according to how I look. Just right.
When the registration form was completed, I submitted it to Rabis.
“Shuu-san, right? I’ve confirmed your registration. Please drop some blood on this plate or give it some magical power.”
Saying so, she held out a copper-colored plate.
“……What is this?”
“This plate is used to prove the identity of that adventurer. By registering magic power, we can check the request status with a magic tool in the guild. You can also use it at other Adventurer’s Guilds.”
I see. it’s like a card which contains my personal information. By reading it with a specialized magic tool, even other Adventurer’s Guilds can smoothly recognize adventurers’ activities. It’s a convenient system.
“Okay, then I will put in magical power.”
Since I had the choice of the painless option, of course, I would choose to insert magic power.
I reached for the plate and inserted some magic power.
Then, the plate was cracked with a sound and broke.
Eh, is it broken? Did I put in too much magic power!?
Is this, do I need to reimburse them? Or is my registration cancelled? I was thinking of earning my income here, so it would be a problem if that happens.
“…..The plate which was incorporated with magic stones is broken….?”
Peeking at Rabis fearfully, she murmured with an astonished look as she gazed at the broken plate.
Apparently, it is not an item that generally breaks. She was similarly as surprised as me.
The adventurers and the receptionist women who were nearby were also looking at me with a “What’s going on?” face.
I’m uncomfortable.
“Um, I’m sorry. Do I need to pay for this??
“N-no, my apologies. It seems that it was a defective product, so please try again with this plate.”
Rabis pulled the broken plate back and presented me with a new plate.
This time, I feel a serious gaze to determine whether it is a defective product or whether suspicious events will occur from her.
Although it is your job, I’ll get embarrassed if you look at me so intently.
However, I can’t be mean to her because she’s just taking her job seriously.
If I let my magic flow without control, it will probably break like the one before.
Even more so than when I used Elementary Magic, I focused and squeezed out only a bit of magic power.
I could sense my magic power slowly permeating into the copper-coloured plate.
I can still let out more magic power, but I feel like it will explode if it receives any more.
Since I knew it intuitively, I stopped supplying magic power.
Then, the plate glowed faintly light briefly and flashed out.
“…….Seems to be okay this time.”
Rabis lifted the plate and observed it from various angles.
After confirming that there is no damage, she carried it with care and placed it on the magic tool behind and waited for a while.
“I’m sorry to have kept you waiting. Shuu-san’s adventurer registration is completed. Since you just registered, you will start from F rank.”
Although there were some incidents such as the plate for registration being broken in the middle, it seems that the registration was completed.
With this, I am now an adventurer, ready to go out and about!
